Physicians interested in taking either the Transplant Hepatology Certification Exam or the Pediatric Transplant Hepatology Certification Exam in October should register today for AASLD’s Transplant Hepatology Board Review Course in August in Dallas, Texas.
“The purpose of this course is to be an overview of transplant hepatology specifically for board preparation. We recognize that we can’t cover every aspect of hepatology in a couple of days, but we are hoping to touch on the highlights and cover the ABIM blueprint,” said Oren K. Fix, MD, MSc, FAASLD, who is chairing the program with K. Gautham Reddy, MD, FAASLD, and Laura M. Kulik, MD.
The Transplant Hepatology Certification Examination blueprint is a document that the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) provides to test takers so they know what topics are going to be covered on the exam.
“We’ve collected all the topics that are on the blueprint that are likely to be covered on the exam. We are bringing in expert speakers to talk about those topics,” said Dr. Fix. “It is a good way for someone who’s studying to fill in the gaps in their knowledge. In part, we’ve done a lot of the work for them.”
AASLD’s board exam review program will take place at the Hyatt Regency DFW International Airport in Dallas on August 18-19.
Each of the speakers will cover at least one board style question in their presentation, Dr. Fix added, noting, for example, that speakers may open with a clinical case and multiple choice set of answers.
“Then they will cover why the answer is correct in their talk,” he said. “Part of studying for a board exam is to actually practice taking multiple choice questions.”
Course attendees will be provided with a printed syllabus for the course for notetaking and as a study aid after the course. The course will prepare attendees for either the adult or pediatric transplant hepatology board exam, with a special breakout of interest to those treating adult patients, such as alcoholic liver disease, and a breakout specifically dealing with pediatric topics.
In addition to the benefits of taking the course for exam preparation, the course will also provide maintenance of certification points and CME credit.
